Max and Atha were catching up to discuss a
completely differer business idea: importing car
batteries into the USA. Along with any other way to
set themselves up for early retirement.
But as they sat by the pool, something familiar
happened. A towel slipped off the fence and hit
the ground.
Again.
Atha looked over, frustrated, and said,
“Every damn time I put a towel over the fence,
it falls off.”
Max laughed and agreed,
“Story of my outdoor life.”
Atha, clearly frustrated, said
‘and they take ages to dry
Atha said, “You know what? We can fix this. We just
need a hook that slides onto the fence.”
Max’s eyes lit up. “Yeah. Let’s make one.”
And just like that, The Pooly was born.
Atha even talked to his barber, a lifelong friend
of 30 years about and they made the first
cardboard prototype.
Behind the scenes we have made over 50 prototypes and
countless phone calls. We feel we have a great product.
What started as a simple fix for towels falling on the
ground became something bigger – a smarter way to
organise poolside living.
The Pooly became the first piece of The Pool Club – a
brand built around effortless summers, organised spaces
and better backyard living.
We are only just getting started. We have an entire range
of lifestyle accessories coming soon and we think you will

Anna Manolatos, is a Greek Australian contemporary artist and The Pool Club’s very own artist and Head of Design. Her work is bold, colourful and full of character, often inspired by her Greek heritage, Australian upbringing, travel, family and the strong women woven through her storytelling.
We wanted towels that felt different. Towels with personality, culture and soul. Not just something to dry off with, but something that could hang beautifully on a Pooly, sit proudly by the pool and bring a little resort-style energy into everyday backyards.
